Rotary District 7780 is sending a Group Study Exchange (“GSE”) Team of young professionals from the Portland, Maine area to the State of Maharashtra, India for a one month vocational and cultural exchange in January 2010.  District 7780 includes 41 Rotary Clubs from northern New England.  District Governor Jeff Pelkey and a committee of experienced Rotarians selected the four GSE Team Members through a competitive application process that included personal interviews with the interested applicants.  Eligible candidates must be between the ages of 25 to 40, and cannot be a Rotarian, descendant of a Rotarian, or spouse of a Rotarian.  The Group Study Exchange program of the Rotary Foundation provides a unique opportunity for young professionals to experience their vocation from the perspective of a different culture.  Team Members will live in the homes of host Rotarian families during their visit to India.  Rotary District 7780 has sent 110 participants on these exchanges to 14 different countries since 1978.  The host Rotary District 3030 will send a Group Study Exchange Team from India to visit northern New England in April 2010.  All expenses for airfare, accommodations, meals, vocational and cultural activities and travel during the exchange are paid for by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International and the host Rotary Clubs.
